Growing Our Roots

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

A relationship that keeps growing

Following Jesus doesn’t stop when we first accept Him into our lives. That’s the beginning of a relationship we continue to build every day.

Think about a plant: it needs strong roots to grow. Our relationship with Jesus needs roots too. We help those roots grow by reading the Bible, praying throughout our day, and inviting Jesus into every area of our lives.

As we spend time with Him, our roots grow deeper, our faith becomes stronger, and our lives begin to change.

Making room for change

For our roots to grow deeper, we have to be willing to change. Following Jesus means learning to leave behind the habits and choices that pull us away from Him.

Ask yourself: Is there something I’m holding on to that is keeping me from growing closer to Jesus? What would it look like to surrender that part of my life to Him?

Growth takes time

This doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t beat yourself up when you struggle or make mistakes. Keep coming back to Jesus and taking steps toward Him.

None of us is perfect—Jesus is. As we continue building our relationship with Him, we can trust Him to work in our lives and help us walk out the plans He has for us.

Take this with you: Keep showing up, keep seeking Jesus, and give your roots time to grow.
